In our grocery, we always start our search locally. There has been a groundswell of artisan food-stuffs being created in the windy city – we love this. Supporting our local foodies, bridging the gap between them and their customers, bringing them in for tastings, all the while presenting their product on our blog, and/or Facebook & Twitter. We provide a space where customers can feel comfortable to window-shop, ask questions, and purveyors of great food items can connect with their audience.
It may seem like a small space, but we carry a shockingly large array of products. Our selection of wine (white, reds, ciders and bubbly) rotates often – bringing in selections from Secret Supper and getting some impressively tasty wine for their price; finding approachable, but interesting flavors that are best suited for food. Our selection of pasta, pasta sauce comes from local sources, but we also carry the best Italian dried pasta. Create a perfect soup from scratch with the ever delicious Rancho Gordo beans or heat up one of the great soup mixes from Frontier Soups. Need to bring munchies to a party? We’ve got our favorite tortilla chips and salsa from Melina’s, Wisconsin made crackers from Potter’s Crackers, artisan cheeses, and a deli case full of options. We create a plethora of preserved goods like jams, jellies, preserves, pickles, sauerkraut, and more – we’ve even got our own preservationist on staff. Take home a bit of breakfast too with Willow Creek Pancake mixes, and granola from Wild Child Granola. But don’t get hung up on brunch foods, our shelves are home to all kinds of spices from Golden Fig and The Spice House. Southport Grocery also has a wide range of items to use for baking, like LorAnn emulsions, some of our favorite bakery mixes, and a few mixes of times from our bakery. Don’t forget dessert! Beyond our cupcakes, we carry a vast amount of goodies like truffle truffle, Etheral, TCHO, Grownup KidsStuff, Morning Glory, and a lot more! Of course, there is always our seasonal selections, because what would the holidays be without, cute stocking stuffer candies, and Christmas cookies?
