The Cupcake
So what’s the big deal? It’s just a cupcake right? That’s like saying the Mona Lisa is just a painting by some Italian guy. Ok, maybe that’s a little extreme… but seriously, our Vanilla and Chocolate cupcakes are to die for. Come by the cafe and try them out!
We’ve also perfected the best way to ship them anywhere in the US, while keeping them fresh and delicious for you. So place an order online today! We guarantee they’ll be as amazing as they are in our store.
About the Gourmet Cupcake
Only the best –local European style butter, Nielsen Massey pure vanilla extract- made fresh daily by hand just the way your mother baked.
Our every-day size is muffin size. But sometimes smaller does the trick …so we have a 4-bite size perfect for weddings, cocktail parties and kid’s birthdays…we need 48 hour notice on the smaller size. The every-day size…come in any time. But if you want to be sure we have what you need (we do run out at times) or if you need more than a dozen please call in your order.
And decorations…small bottles of sprinkles are available for purchase as well as gel pens for you to decorate yourself. Not comfortable with this? For a small charge we can tint the buttercream and add sprinkles for you.

Without a doubt… the best cupcakes I’ve ever had.

I’m not much of a cake or cupcake eater really, so I was skeptical when told how amazing they were. But it was truly delicious and unlike any other dessert I’ve tasted. Now I want more!!

I think of cupcakes as those things you take to grade school on your birthday to share with your classmates. Your cupcakes are definitely in a whole different category! Wow! Delicious!

Unbelievable. Every time I eat one it feels like the first time. If they were healthy, I’m dead serious that I would eat these cupcakes for every meal. They are one of the best tasting pieces of food that has ever been placed in my mouth. I don’t know what Heaven is like, but these sure are close. Thank you to the Cupcake Gods who created this recipe.

Don’t forget to try the chocolate cupcakes too! The classic vanilla ones are great, but being a fan of chocolate over vanilla, it is hard for me to be objective.

Absolutely perfect! My sister introduced me to these and I forever owe her! We make trips throughout the year and pick up for each other, and we ordered for her baby shower in March. Everyone loved these cupcakes, and we put a few to the side for us

I just wanted to thank you again for coordinating the cupcake order for Anthony and my wedding this past weekend.
Everyone raved about the cupcakes and how amazing they were!

They are, of course, sweet and flavorful, but I think the texture is what makes them so good.

I went to the Magnolia bakery in New York with the highest expectations in the world…and I’m not sure why. Southport’s cupcakes blow them out of the water. In almost every other way, I tend to like NYC better than Chicago. But for cupcakes, Chicago wins.

Southport is where we get our food delivered from, and when people see those cupcakes I hear, “Our those the Southport cupcakes?” Were always selling out of them and oh yes I’ve had them. Let me say Yummmmmmmy!

Heaven on earth and pure perfection! Thank you!

I am a cupcake connoisseur. I’ve gone to so many places all around chicago to get the best cupcake. YEs there are good ones out there but Southport has “the Best” cupcake in my opinion. It is fanfreakingtabulous. I can’t get enough of those yummy vanilla cupcakes. And they’re not ridiculously priced either.

Ahhh, the cupcake- the most memorable food of my ten day trip to Chicago this summer! I’m a chocolate fan, but I think in this case, I prefer the vanilla. Worth the trip from Texas!

My boss first picked up one of these tasty treats for me about two years ago and I’ve been addicted ever since. This is easily the best cupcake I’ve ever eaten!

My roomate brought home a box box of these sinful sweets and I was skeppitcal as I dont normally like anything pastry. She offered me half a cupcake that afternoon and when i woke up in the middle of the night for my other half I ended up eating most of the box. Needless to say, I was up early the next day replacing the best late night snack I ever had … and I didn’t regret it for a second. Dear, Cupcakes … never change!

I just had my first Southport cupcake … chocolate with vanilla icing. It. was. intense. Keep up the great baking!
July 17th, 2009 at 7:23 pm
The chocolate cupcakes are the best! They don’t taste overly chocolately–it’s a very faint hint of chocolate. Hard to explain, but very moist and yummy. Even better than the vanilla!
August 5th, 2009 at 10:42 pm
we’re going to chicago solely as cupcake enthusiasts!!! we hope these are amazing!!! my dog is literally licking the screenshots of the cupcakes!

Fans for over 4 years. Have searched high and low, both in and out of Chicago, for a better cupcake and nothing – we mean nothing – compares!
Over-processed “designer” desserts take a back seat to the on-point, Simple Perfection of Southport’s magnificent cupcakes.
Please make them forever!
Thank you.

Just had one of your gluten free cupcakes at a baby shower. Delicious!!!! Was wondering if these will ever be made available online. I live out of state. Thanks!!!
October 21st, 2009 at 12:46 pm
Officially and completely a fan of your cupcakes. Had one (well, maybe 2) at the Book Cellar and have been in love ever since. I have tried other designer cupcakes as I am a true chocolate buttercream frosting kind of gal!!! But, I’ll make an exception every time for one of your (maybe 2) yummy cupcakes! Whatever you do, please keep doing it.
Thanks!
