Southport Grocery’s Great Gift Baskets

Tuesday, November 22nd, 2011

It’s that time of year citizens. It’s gift giving time. We’re warming up our stainless steal table, clear wrap, and of course the baskets. We have been putting together perfect gift baskets for businesses, families, friends, for over 8 years. We’ve shipped to the edges of the continental United States, walked baskets down the street and everywhere in-between. SPG’s whiz staff puts together packages ranging from $50 to $200, usually – but if you are on a different budget we’re happy to help.

Know someone who can’t get enough of cooking? Someone that debates with you without promoting about the fact that olive oil is unregulated, or that likes to judge an ice cream dependent on it’s percentage of air? How about someone that is just growing into their own as a home chef, discovering new flavors and seeking the finer ingredients in their kitchen? We can put together items that will show them how much you try and listen to their raving about food.

How about that uberlocalvore? With the small space we have, SPG has a shocking large array of locally made products. From the second city, there is a host of delights ranging from handmade candies and popcorn to spices. We’ll bring in what is best from around the area and pack it up tight into a pretty container (for shipping or picking up/delivery) just for you and your giftee. This is also the perfect gift idea for those folks who move out of town and need those little pieces of Chicago. Don’t let them forget their time in the ‘big shouldered’ city, heck some folks in the suburbs forget!

All of those people that you have to get gifts for. You’ve checked off a handful of people off your list, but for some reason you can’t think what to get them. We can help with that too. Tell us about them and we can make the perfect basket! Don’t know anything at all? We can work with that too, we are just that good! Had a great year at the office and want to reward all your employees? We’ve done that, and can help make your gift giving special and easy.

If you have an eye for finding the exact right food stuffs for your basket, SPG can put it in a nice bag or in one of our baskets for you, wrap it up nice, making the perfect handpicked gift.

Christmas party incoming? Holiday party tomorrow? Need to pick up something, but it can’t just be anything to a get together? We’ve got the solution – food and candy. Everyone loves both, and those who say they don’t are lying.

Grab from the plethora of items on our shelf. We may be small but we have a really diverse selection. Know someone who was naughty this year? Grab a Hammond’s Candy Coal for that rascal. Everyone loves chocolate and we’ve got loads of things for the chocoholic: TCHO’s Christmas boxes, Mille Lacs’ Trinkets, Mittens, and Snowflakes, Chocolate covered Hostess pretzels, fantastic chocolate covered grahams, too many more to name! Hard candy? Covered. Cookies? Handmade right here in the store, ready to devour! We’ve got jams, jellies, conserves that we make here – or take the bread pudding pancake mix over the grandma’s and make them in the morning for the family.

Fill up on stocking stuffers or full on gifts before it’s too late. And enjoy the holidays!

Simply bring in your favorite platter – or use one of our disposable decorative platters – and choose your fare. You don’t have to do any of the work; simply take the wrap off and relish the party.

We have a flourishing catering menu with some of your steadfast favorites like our Hummus – with crackers & crudites (6.50/serving). Go with something ‘catering-only’ like the green olive, goat cheese, and walnuts on crostini (24/dozen) or pear wedges & arugula wrapped prosciutto (28/dozen) – so many choices even that picky aunt will be happy. Check out our entire catering menu.

Have something in mind? Ask, we do custom menus! Only 48 hours notice is required – sometimes more for those larger parties.

Ladies & Gentlemen… Start Your Ovens!

Thursday, December 20th, 2007

The race is on over the weekend to finish any last minute shopping, gift wrapping and baking. Just remember, when it comes to baking, Southport Grocery & Cafe
is the ultimate Pit Stop.

For the seasoned veteran, we have everything you need to bake from scratch. Example: We don’t merely carry vanilla, we have Vanilla Powder, Clear Vanilla and Vanilla Extract. Speaking of extracts, we’ve also got
Orange, Lemon, Almond & Coffee Extracts. Food Coloring? How about every color of the rainbow? Varietals of chocolate range from semi-sweet to bittersweet.

If you want to bake, but the clock is against you. We can give you an assist. Try one of the Jacques Torres mixes: Mudslide or French Kiss Cookies, Pure Bliss Brownies ($14.00). The Barefoot Contessa has: Chocolate Chunk, Pecan Shortbread
and Peanut Butter Chocolate Chunk ($11.50). For decandence we steer you to The King’s Cupboard line: White Chocolate Hazelnut Cake Mix ($12.50) and Triple Chocolate layer Cake ($8.25).

If you simply don’t bake or you’d like to augment the cookies you baked yourself Southport Grocery & Cafe still carries a limited amount of our signature, homemade cookie assortments. 1 lb. box ($16.50), 1/2 lb. cylinder ($8.50)

And we don’t condone passing our cookies off as your own…That would be cheating!
