4 cups fresh broccoli florets
½ cup peanuts
½ cup sunflower seeds
3 green onion, chopped
1 cup mayonnaise
2 T sugar
¼ cup sherry vinegar
Salt and pepper to taste

Mix together in a small bowl the mayonnaise, vinegar & sugar. In a large bowl toss together the broccoli, peanuts, sunflower seeds and green onion.  Add mayonnaise mixture and mix.  Salt & pepper to taste.

Pesto is a real thing of beauty. Simple ingredients, and strong green color that makes a good addition to pasta sauce and the like. It is also tricky to get right, too watery usually, but we at Southport Grocery found someone who got pesto right: Besto Pesto. Small batches of deliciously spreadable pesto with just right right amount of Parmesan and Romano cheese, basil, and a hint of lemon to make any cracker not getting a smear jealous. Besto Pesto is titillating on your tilapia, prefect for your pasta, and your bruschette will be begging for more.

You won’t have to bury this pesto, eat it on crackers or by the spoonful! You can find Besto Pesto in our freezer.

At Southport Grocery we have given up on our New Years resolution to eat healthy – we tried, we really did. To celebrate our best efforts we’re selling our delectable burger for $6, Monday through Friday this week. Our burger is a savory thick hand-formed patty, topped with grilled onions, sour cream, your choice of cheese – buttermilk blue, Zingerman’s goat, butterkase, or chipotle cheddar – on a brioche bun (don’t forget about the side of red potato mash.)  Oh so perfect on these cold days, something warm and delightful. If your crash diet crashed and burned, our burger will finally fill your belly – you have to treat yourself sometime.

It’s the first week after your New Years Resolution and we’ve got a couple things to keep you going: A new 1/2 soup and 1/2 salad for $7, and an updated salad only available this week: poached shrimp salad, poached shrimp, arugula, radish and red grapefruit with a citrus vinaigrette for $9.
